Companies Are Redefining the Purpose of Business Events
For years, many corporate events focused on presentations, packed schedules, and attendance numbers. Today, according to Miami-based Senior Event Coordinator Leigh Tesar, businesses are taking a different approach by designing events that encourage stronger relationships, better conversations, and more meaningful experiences.
After coordinating corporate conferences, networking events, company gatherings, fundraisers, and community events throughout Miami, Tesar has observed a shift in what clients want to accomplish when they bring people together.
"Businesses are asking different questions than they did a few years ago," said Tesar. "Instead of focusing on how many people attend, they're thinking more about the quality of the experience and the connections people make while they're there."
Events Are Becoming an Extension of Company Culture
As organizations continue investing in in-person events, Tesar believes the role of event planning has expanded beyond logistics. Companies increasingly view conferences, networking events, and internal gatherings as opportunities to strengthen relationships with employees, clients, partners, and their communities.
"When people leave an event, they usually don't remember every detail of the schedule," she said. "They remember the conversations they had, how welcomed they felt, and whether the experience made their time feel worthwhile."
This change has influenced the way many events are planned. More organizations are prioritizing interactive experiences, comfortable networking environments, and flexible schedules that allow people to engage naturally rather than simply moving from one presentation to the next.
Strategy Begins Long Before the Event
Tesar says successful events begin with understanding why they are being held in the first place. Every planning decision, from venue selection and room layout to vendor coordination and scheduling, should support the client's broader objectives.
"I always start by asking what success looks like after the event is over," Tesar said. "Once you understand the purpose, every other decision becomes much more intentional."
Throughout her career, Tesar has worked closely with venues, caterers, decorators, production teams, entertainment providers, and vendors to coordinate events from concept through execution. She believes preparation and communication remain the foundation of every successful event, regardless of its size.
Building Better Experiences Through Collaboration
Another trend Tesar has noticed is the growing importance of collaboration throughout the planning process. As events become more personalized, clients are relying on planners and vendors to contribute ideas rather than simply carry out instructions.
"The best events are always collaborative," she said. "When clients, vendors, and planners are working toward the same goal, it creates a better experience for everyone involved."
Since beginning her career in 2019, Tesar has progressed from Event Assistant to Senior Event Coordinator, gaining experience managing corporate conferences, networking events, award ceremonies, community gatherings, brand activations, private celebrations, and fundraisers. She has also continued expanding her expertise through professional training in event operations, budgeting, client management, guest experience strategies, and event technology.
Looking Ahead
As organizations continue to evaluate how they connect with employees, customers, and business partners, Tesar expects thoughtful event design to remain a priority.
"The events people remember aren't necessarily the biggest ones," she said. "They're the ones where people felt connected, engaged, and like their time truly mattered. That's what businesses are looking for more and more."
